How Verification Works

Our verification service follows a tried and trusted process. This section gives a brief overview of the steps in our process from the point when an operator appoints us.

The Operator sends us a copy of their GHG Permit and the Monitoring Plan as agreed with the Competent Authority. In the case of Ireland this is the EPA. This indicates to us how complex the installation is and how much work is involved.

We send the Operator an application/agreement form, which states the annual fee and contains clauses on confidentiality on our part and agreement to provide information etc. on the part of the Operator.

Normally, we visit the Operator's site in the Autumn, before the year end, to ensure that the correct information is being held, and to perform a partial Audit on the available data An interim report is provided to the operator following the visit.

The Operator sends us their Annual Emissions Report before the end of the 3rd week in January.
Depending on the fuels used, we visit the Operator's site as soon as we can after that to perform the on-site part of the verification process.

We keep the Operator informed as to the progress of the verification process, especially if their report contains omissions, misstatements, errors etc. The Operator is given the opportunity to correct errors and change their report if necessary.

We verify the Operator's report and issue the verification statement to the Operator when we are satisfied that the report does not contain any material misstatement.

VSL understands the importance of performing its duties in an open, non discriminatory and impartial manner. We have a complaints, disputes and appeals procedure. Information on this is available on request.
